Setup, Browsing and Assigning a VST Preset

Choose MIDI > Device Setup > Manage VST Plug-ins.

What it does

Finale PrintMusic allows you to use any VST plug-in for playback. This dialog box allows you to view, activate, or deactivate the VST plug-ins installed on your computer. VST instrument and effects plug-ins are available for selection in the VSTBanks & Effects.

• Make Active · Make Inactive. Select a VST plug-in and then use these buttons to activate or deactivate them. The plug-ins move to the Active/Inactive Plug-ins list accordingly.

• Refresh Plug-in Lists. Use this button to load plug-ins from folders added to the folder list since the beginning of the current Finale session.

• Add · Remove. Choose Add to open the Browse for Folder dialog box where you can specify the VST plug-in's folder.

• Close. Click close (or press ENTER) to confirm the changes you’ve made, if any, and return to the score.

Assign a VST Preset

Generally VST hosts applications have a “Preset Manager box” to locate the predefined sounds (presets) of the plug-in and them can be manipulated by this way.
However in Finale PrintMusic the presets can be activated by assigning the corresponding preset number to the "Prog." setting within the "Instrument List" box.
 

Go to Finale PrintMusic 2011 menu:

• Note: No matter what the “Prog.” shows you, i.e. # 19 “Rock Organ” because it’s GENERAL MIDI numbers. In fact, the number 19 in Harmodion responds to “Accordion” as in the example.

   MIDI Instrument SetupVST Instrument List
   Click on => “Prog.” Box
   Click on => "Edit Instrument button" 
   Type in "Program Change" of "Instrument Definition box" the desired preset number (In example "19" for "Accordion" -> See the complete list of presets.
   Click "OK" button to confirm.
